An expert from Iceland: do more, so children get sick less frequently
Even though doctors say, that in the cold and damp months of the year it is normal for children to get sick, we can always pay more attention to anything we can do to prevent it.
In Latvia’s “Creakids” kindergarten a lot of thought is put into hygiene, getting enough fresh air into all rooms and keeping them clean, that way caring for the health of every child there. Hildur Helga Saevarsdottir has taken that account, while through the project “Resonsible Lifestyle” getting aquatinted with the practices used both in Latvia and Norway.
She says: ”In Latvia they think about hygiene a lot, and the employees clean every room every say. I think, that in Iceland we can look at this as a good example and because of it we could improve cleaning in our kindergarden. That way we might decrease the number of children and employees who get sick.”
The expert says, that all countries involved in the project think about and support responsible lifestyle, but they different methods to provide children and employees with good environment, healthy food and physical activities. She says: “We all work to develop. We all do something in this sphere, but, of course, we can always do better. For example, there are the eternal tasks of exercising more and in different ways, be more effective, recycle, be nicer and better people, as well as provide more support to people, who need it.”
Excellent idea - a song or a rhyme for washing hands!
To encourage kids to wash their hands and to wash them well, a song or a rhyme could be useful. Kids are creative enough to do it themselves with the help of teachers. While the rhyme is being counted, children can soap their hands, and after, while counting the rhyme again, they could wash them thoroughly. That way the act of washing hands will become almost like a game and it will bring more joy to children. A similar thing to do could be making a special game with fingers, while washing hands.
